Ira bemutatkozása

I am a native Russian speaker and a professional language teacher. I have been teaching for 19 years, and I hold a PhD in Philology (2008).
I have taught Russian to adults in Hungary, France, Canada and Germany.

I live in Budapest, and I am a language learner myself — I study Hungarian. So I know what it feels like to start a difficult language as an adult, with a full working week behind you, and how much it matters that the teacher is patient and does not rush you.

In my lessons you are allowed to be wrong. I do not correct every word — I let you finish your thought first.

WE WORK IN ENGLISH. Explanations, your questions, everything around the Russian we are practising happens in English, so we do not need a shared first language. If English is not your first language either, you keep it in use — live and unscripted, with someone who has taught English for 19 years. Two languages in one hour.
NO COURSEBOOKS. I teach the Russian I speak at home with my family and the Russian you hear now: in films, songs, interviews and the news.
A TYPICAL LESSON. We start by talking about your week, in Russian, at whatever length you can manage. Then we take one real piece of material — a short clip, a song, an interview, a text — pull out the words and phrases you need, and use them straight away.
Grammar appears when it blocks you: the alphabet, the cases and the verbs of motion arrive when you need them for something you actually want to say, not as a syllabus to finish before you are allowed to talk.
WHO IT IS FOR. Adults at any level, complete beginners included. Most of my students have demanding jobs and full weeks, so we go at your speed.

I do not measure progress in levels on paper, but in what you can do: a film you follow without subtitles, a joke you get while it
is still funny.
